Smithbridge Group and our associates comprise a portfolio of well-known construction services and equipment hire brands throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Region. Our group includes Universal Cranes Australia, Universal Cranes New Zealand, and Smithbridge Guam, each holding a unique market position but all recognised for delivering high-quality, innovative construction and equipment services.
With a rich history spanning 60 years, Smithbridge Group remains a 100% family-owned business. Founded in Rangiora, New Zealand in 1964 as John C Smith Contractors Ltd, Group Managing Director Albert Smith inherited part of his father’s business in 1986. Albert’s brother Tim also inherited part of the business, which today operates as Smith Cranes and Construction in New Zealand.
The group has since grown to over 750 employees and over 440 units of equipment’s, with services expanding into crane hire, transport solutions, engineering, civil and marine construction, aggregate and construction materials, ready-mix concrete, and precast concrete.
